Online Degrees for Every Need

One question many people wonder about when considering an online degree education is what types of online degrees can you earn?  The answer is the variety available of online degrees is almost as broad as the needs of most students exploring them as a means of earning one.  With the exception of some areas of study requiring access to specialized equipment, or are lab intensive as a few examples might be tougher to find online degrees in those types of areas for the moment.

Understanding that exception, the great news is the wide array of degrees available is very good and always improving.

To start, you can earn an associates, bachelor, master’s or PHD online.  An associate’s degree is a two year degree awarded after meeting the requirements to earn one which is typically 60 to 66 college credit hours.  This is usually half the total credits needed to earn a bachelor’s degree which we’ll discuss next.  The bachelor’s degree is a four degree representing the mastery demonstrated by the student who earns a minimum of 120 college credit hours.  These credit hours are a mixture of lower level and upper level courses the latter of which are usually focused in the specialty of the field of study.  For example, an area of focus might be business management or accounting.

Then you can earn a Master’s degree which is the continuation of an area of focus started in the bachelor’s degree or can be a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA).  Master’s programs usually comprise an additional 36 college credit hours earned over the course of two additional years representing more advanced study in an academic field.

Finally, if a student chooses to he or she can continue on to earn a PhD or doctorate degree in an academic field.  At this level, a university can require 36 to 60 additional college credit hours to earn a PhD.

It’s also important to understand each additional step in the education process becomes more expensive, but can also represent sizable opportunities to earn more during one’s career as well.

The positive effects of advance education on a person’s income on lifetime earnings are well documented.

For our focus, let’s start where we all must – the bachelor’s degree.

We know a bachelor’s degree can be earned online but what fields can it be in.  Like the online degrees themselves the options are quite broad.  Online degrees can be earned in any number of business fields such as business administration, management, supply chain management, accounting, and finance to name a few.

If your preference is for something in the sciences there are degrees in computer science, psychology, biology, information systems, mathematics, and others.  Online degrees are also available in general studies, English, human resources management, nursing, and the list goes on.

The lesson to be learned, pardon the education related pun, is with a bit of effort and research you can most likely find a degree to match your needs or desires.  The variety, while not all encompassing to every field of study yet, is large enough to accommodate nearly all students.

As always, amidst the many choices available to potential distance students in the way of choice of online degrees, one must do their research carefully before committing to any program to truly insure it meets all of their needs.
