How to Earn an Online Degree Fast

I’ve spoken about and shared my thoughts around earning an online degree fast on several occasions.  Most of my ideas about focusing on how long it takes to earn a degree as fast as one is capable should be among the least of the worries of a distance student.  Rather, my recommendation is to focus on earning a degree you want and performing the best that you can in doing so.

Ultimately, earning an online degree will take the time it requires to finish.  However, for those speed obsessed individuals that need to earn a distance degree as quickly as possible there is a few ways to do this.

The first thing you will need is to select the right program designed to make earning an online degree more conducive to success.  So what type of program am I speaking of?  Specifically, any program arranged with strict guidelines for the order in which courses will be taken along with stringent course timelines.  In short, the degree program will eliminate flexibility in favor of forcing students through the program.

Next, courses should be given in 8 weeks or less.  If you have no prior coursework before entering the degree program you’ll want to ask if you’re able to take two courses per session as well.  If attending year round, this would allow you to earn 120 credit hours in two years.

In contrast, if you had any prior college credits that would transfer toward your degree it would greatly condense the schedule.  The important thing to remember is earning that many credits in two years is extremely aggressive and should only be attempted by the most focused of individuals.

The reality is putting out the type of effort required day in and day out for two years, dealing with all the other demands life will throw at you, and still performing well in school doesn’t always lend itself to success.

This is probably the main reason I don’t recommend trying this.  However, I won’t say it can’t be done.

If you’re reading this, perhaps, you’re that unique individual who can manage the chaos and come away with a degree in two years.

Next, a serious amount of thought and effort will need to go into formulating strategies to make this possible as well.  If you believe it’s possible to make it up as you go through this experience you will be proven wrong.  Here are a few things to consider.

Do you currently have, or can you make time in your schedule to routinely study and complete work?  Do you have any concerns about specific subjects that might give you trouble and what to do if a course does?  Do you have work, family, or other demands that require additional or unusual schedules or times?  Are you highly focused?  Are you self-disciplined?  Do you have any problems with procrastinating or putting things off to the last moment?

These are just a few of the many things which need to be considered and strategies developed for to deal with them.  As you can see earning an online degree fast can’t be left to chance, it simple will not work.  For that matter, earning an online degree period can’t be left to chance.

Whether you acknowledge the fact or chose not to, you will form strategies consciously or unconsciously allowing you to manage the process.

The take away from all of this is an online degree fast is possible.  However, few among us should attempt it unless you are sure you have the focus, drive, and right strategies to finish what you’ve started.  If the answers to these are “yes” for you, then success is within reach.

For those who are unsure, worry less about how quickly you can earn an online degree and focus on taking the time to earn one while doing it well.
